Free Legal Aid Project
(Handog: Pang Sabadong Abogado)
  • The First Gentleman, together with his classmates at the Ateneo Law Class '72, personally attends to poor clients of his legal aid clinic project in Malacanang.

A lawyer himself the First Gentleman thought of this notable project to be of service to the Filipinos in his own little way. During the legal clinic’s operation, the number of clients every Saturday ranged from 39 to 60. It served a total of 3, 607 clients before it closed in December 2004 temporarily.

One of the First Gentleman’s untold but memorable stories as a lawyer (often designated by the judge as the counsel de officio for accused persons who have no lawyers to represent them), was paid two eggplants by the accused in a burglary case.
