“As we listened to the eleven medical students during the interview our hearts were touched by their stories about their families and the economic challenges that threaten the possibility of not being able to continue their studies. We have also been encouraged of their readiness to serve the country prompting the Board to approve their application to the scholarship grant. The BDB program, like the PINOY MD, has helped spark a renewed interest of private groups of individuals and the government to address the dwindling size of doctors who are serving the underserved areas in the country. This program orientation perfectly jives with one of the fundamental tasks of PLM administration to serve the poor by giving quality education as a part of a culture of public service and good governance.
